Absolutism
Although absolutism, as a form of government, is present in various forms in various countries and eras, this term generally refers to the absolute European monarchies of the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The famous phrase "I am the State", uttered by the French king Louis XIV, sums up well this political regime, in which one person - the king - exercises power absolutely, without any legal or other limits.
