Treaty of Versailles

The Versailles Treaty was a peace treaty signed, following the Peace Conference, between Germany and the Allied Countries at the end of World War I (June 1919) where the terms of German surrender were defined, namely the restitution of the regions of Alsace and Lorraine to France, the loss of all overseas colonies, the heavy indemnities paid to the victors and the obligation to demilitarize their army, conditions that constituted a real humiliation for Germany. For many historians, it was this humiliation that gave rise to World War II.
